Privacy
In short: your models never leave your computer. mesh2nurbs converts them inside your browser. We have no accounts, no cookies and no advertising.
Your models
When you open or drop a file, your browser reads it and converts it on your own device (with Web Workers, WebAssembly and, where available, your graphics card through WebGPU). The file and the results are not uploaded to us or to anyone else. The .3dm and .zip downloads are built in the page and saved by your browser like any other download.
mesh2nurbs.com only serves the files of the app itself (the page, its scripts, fonts and icons). There is no file storage behind it; the only server code receives the anonymous conversion statistics described below (kept in a small database), which never contain your model.
The sample chess set
If you click Try the sample chess set, your browser downloads the model “A Beautiful Game” (about 43 MB) directly from GitHub, at raw.githubusercontent.com/KhronosGroup/glTF-Sample-Assets. GitHub then receives a normal web request from your browser (including your IP address), under GitHub's privacy statement. Nothing is sent to GitHub unless you click the button.
Preferences saved in your browser
The app remembers your settings in your browser's local storage, on your device only. They are never sent anywhere. You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. The keys are:
| Key | What it remembers |
|---|---|
nurbs.variants | The purpose you picked (Editable CAD, Smooth skin or both) |
nurbs.tol, nurbs.accuracy | The accuracy limit and the accuracy rule |
nurbs.units | The units you chose for files without units |
nurbs.resources, nurbs.resCores, nurbs.resMemGB, nurbs.order | How much of your computer a conversion may use, and how pieces are scheduled |
nurbs.gpu | Your graphics backend choice |
nurbs.uv, nurbs.uvDensity, nurbs.iso, nurbs.knots, nurbs.insNet | Display options for UV lines and the surface inspector |
nurbs.legend, nurbs.legend.narrow, nurbs.runSteps, nurbs.focusSteps, nurbs.hud | Which panels you left open or closed |
nurbs.runningSince | The start time of a running conversion, so that after a browser crash the page can tell you it was stopped (deleted when you leave the page) |
We do not use cookies.
Hosting: Cloudflare
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives the technical details of each request your browser makes to mesh2nurbs.com (such as your IP address, browser type and the address requested) in order to deliver the files and protect the site from abuse. Cloudflare handles this data under the Cloudflare privacy policy. We do not run our own server logs.
Visitor statistics: Cloudflare Web Analytics
To know how many people use the site, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. A small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com reports page views and page-load performance to Cloudflare (cloudflareinsights.com). According to Cloudflare, it uses no cookies and no local storage, does not fingerprint visitors and does not track you across sites. We only see aggregate numbers, such as visits, pages, countries, referring sites, browser and device types, and load times; we cannot identify you from them.
Conversion statistics
To learn whether conversions work, the page sends one small anonymous message when a conversion starts and one when it ends (finished, stopped or failed) to mesh2nurbs.com, which stores it in a Cloudflare D1 database. Each message contains only:
- the kind of message (started, finished, stopped, failed) and the time it was received, to the minute;
- the purpose you picked (Editable CAD, Smooth skin or both) and, at the end, for each purpose whether all, some or none of the shapes were within your accuracy limit;
- rough ranges, not exact numbers, of the number of shapes, the number of surfaces made and how long it took (for example “10 to 19 shapes”, “2 to 5 minutes”) — except that when a conversion finishes, its exact number of shapes (at most 200 per conversion) is added to a running total. That total is the public counter on the start page (“… converted to NURBS”); it is a single number and is not linked to the message;
- whether the device is a desktop or laptop, or a phone or tablet; the browser family (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox or other), worked out in the page from your browser's user agent; and whether your graphics card (WebGPU) was used.
It does not contain your file or its name, any part of your model or results, your settings beyond the purpose, an identifier of you or your device, cookies, your IP address or your full user agent. We store none of these; Cloudflare receives the IP address as part of every request (see Hosting above) but it is not written to the statistics. Messages cannot be linked to each other or to you.
Your browser sends nothing if it has Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control switched on. The messages are deleted after about three months and we only look at totals; the running total is kept.
What we do not do
- No user accounts, sign-ups or passwords.
- No advertising, no selling or sharing of data, no cross-site tracking.
- No uploads of your models or results.
